Facts about education in Pakistan

    • 1 of every 10 children not in school in the world lives in Pakistan.
    • 50% of school children (aged 6-16 years) in Pakistan can neither read nor write.
    • Only 23% of Pakistani children under the age of 16 attend secondary school.
    • Almost one-third of Pakistanis live in extreme educational poverty — having received less than two years of education.
    • According to UNICEF, over 17% of Pakistani children are working and supporting their families.
    • Most of the 10.5 million are completely illiterate and some even live on the street, finding it difficult to integrate into mainstream society even if they are given the opportunity.

The poor quality of the learning environment

37.7 % of the schools up to the elementary level don`t have boundary walls,
33.9 % lack drinking water facility,
37 % don`t have latrines and 60 per cent are without electricity.
